This weather

is really difficult for me. There is an old saying: "Horses sweat, gentlemen perspire and ladies glow". Well, in this heat, honey, let me tell you: I sweat. Any suggestions for how to beat the heat when the humidity hits high, and the heat hits hotter?

Yours, in anticipation of suggestions,
N.

Hello, Michele sent me.

When it's hot, humid and miserable and I can't escape to the mountains (36 hours and counting) I either sit around with as little clothing on as possible or try to find a body of water to immerse myself in.

Michele asked me to drop by and share my thoughts on keeping cool/

I take my shoes off because I find shoes to be really hot. Sometimes, putting my feet into cold water helps as well.

Oh, and a non-stop supply of ice water to drink. And if I can steal away to the basement, so much the better. Especially when the a/c is on: then it's like the North Pole down there!

Soak your feet or get in a cool tub. A Popsicle?

Baby powder, applied liberally.

Frequent visits to the shower/swimming pool/river - anything that is nearer.
I happen to know that saying you quote. I've heard somewhere finished it 'Well, I glow buckets' - haaahaaa.

BTW, I also make bread at home for my family.
Check my site, with full photo explanation. I wrote it some days ago, you'll have to scroll down a bit.
Thanks!

I think Michele sent me here to discuss this aspect of heat. I too would like answers though I keep myself cool drinking gallons of fresh lime juice with lots of ice in it. It helps.

Bread - I love bread!

I know, it is hot where I am too. Not so much humid, but hot.

Michele sent me over to say hi.

Beckie: check out some older posts of mine for some recipes, descriptions and photographs of bread
(especially getting the sprogs to make bread last weekend).

I guess it's got to be hot somewhere - usually it's here. Sacramento has been enjoying a very mild summer so far - only 5 days at or above 100 degrees so far and yesterday we only got into the high 80s. Today? Low 90s, tops!

Now I probably just went and jinxed myself!

Michele sent me,

Mike

It may be wet in the UK but it's humid here too! It sounds much worse where you are though. The only thing I cna think of is stripping off and plenty of cool showers. Also sitting near a fan! Being sweaty is just the pits isn't it?

Michele sent me to visit you and say hi and thanks for your kind words on my blog :)

Oooo. Humidity is the worst! I would say a tank top and your skivvies. :-)

Oh, and of course a large body of water for a dip works too.

Good Luck.

Cheers!

Michele sent me too, Breadbox.

The best way to beat the heat is to stay inside. But you didn't need me to tell you that.

It's been in the mid 90s here and high humidity the past week but supposedly this weekend it'll only get to the mid 80s. I'm not holding my breath tho--weather forecasters lie!

move to the mountains, where it is cool(er) and dry.

I live at 7000 feet

David: although some of the areas have been dammed up, and nuclear power stations make lakes flow uphill to store power, we do in fact live in the mountains (or at least high up in the foothills). Unfortunately, it is still humid. And hot!
