Remnants

We got remnants today. Of Hurricane Humberto (I have to say, I pity the fool: imagine being a hurricane on the playground, and all the other little storms running about and teasing you about how your forecasters named you Humberto!)
And it was thrilling --- mainly because we got a quarter inch or more of much needed rain (the first in months: we are really dry, so dry that even CNN has noticed whenever we are threatened by a good drenching storm). Well, the rain was part of it: the other thrilling part was the four of us huddling in the interior bathroom as the tornado warning system siren wailed its earsplitting noise (we live yards away from the siren, which means we will never sleep through a warning!). It doesn't go off too often (since the detached the fire station warning siren from it) and we've not had a tornado touch down in the little town since we moved her ten years ago. With luck this will continue:-)

Strange the effect rain has on the psyche: LOML is uplifted, thinking of the garden (and not having to water it). I was lowered: not depressed, exactly, but not made joyful. I think that it was the darkness it dropped over the area. Boo and Skibo? Ran outside to run around in it, until the lightning!

Yours, in a flash
N,

I love inclement weather! I don't want to see any harm come to anyone, but I love to marvel at how powerful Mother Nature is.

Glad you got some much-needed rain.

Michele sent me,

Mike

While rain would put a damper on my riding (literally, eh?) I'd be quite happy to get a little of Humberto right about now. As long as Humberto stayed little and did not become HumBERRRRToooo... ;)

Here via Michele's tonight!

Here in Okieland...that would be just about perfect weather! hehehe

Glad you got the rain--maybe the rain-freshened air will uplift you tomorrow. :)
(and I'm happy you didn't get a tornado!)

Howdy, Michele sent me today!

A rain after a long dry spell does wonders for the spirt. Just like teh spring after a thaw make you feel better. Glad a twister didn't make a visit to your neighborhood.

Hello from Michele

Only against nature we are so puny. Mother Nature truly levels us.

Michele sent me here to wish more rain for you but no hurricane!

May your safety continue. We in the UK unusually, have been without rain for days but I think that will change. This year our summer has just happened - all six days of it.

I applauded the rain, out first in months, and prayed for it to continue all night. It didn't. Meh.

I love a good thunder and lightening storm. As long as I am inside. :) I love it when the rain comes down in buckets and I can watch it from my sun room. And the girls cuddle up to me and we read. And when the lightening and thunder hits...they get closer to me as if somehow I am a safe haven. We have the best time when the lights go out :)

Stopping by to say hello....

It is wonderful to hear that you and yours are safe. I drove through a downpour so bad yesterday that I had to pull over to the side of the road because of almost zero visibility. There I sat for twenty minutes, listening to the rain pound against my car and chatting with one of my dearest friends. It was nice. I love rain although I do prefer not to be driving in a downpour.

Oh, and did someone use me as an answer in a knock-knock joke?

Thanks everyone for the concern: we are all safe and sound, as I expected we would be -- the tornado actually passed well south of us, perhaps 10 or 15 miles, and I've heard no reports of damage so it was probably not a bad one.

And Michele, you were not the punchline, merely an intermediate answer:-) I would never use you as a punchline!

Hello, Michele sent me. Really good to get much needed rain, isn't it! Although I am not too sure about hiding out from tornados. Now they really scare me! Hope the week-end is great for you!

It poured all day at our house too. Only I have an immediate reaction to pouring rain: sleep. I spent half the day on my sofa snoring away. I love weekends.

I know that. I was teasing you and your comment made me smile, which they often do. Oh, it is raining here. I shall blame and thank-you!

Michele sent me to see what you were up to tonight- we had rain yesterday -an all day rain -for the first time in months here in Virginia- we've been something like 6 inches below normal. We weren't in line for the Humberto rain I guess but it would have been welcome here too.

I'm glad you all fine. I think there is something magical about watching storm (as long as your in a safe place)

This week I got drenched in a rain storm...of course once I got to the car it stopped and only started to rain again, when I had to get out of the car :-)

Thanks for visiting me!

I love the way you write about your family and yourself, Bresdbox....There is so much love and such a sense of "family"...It warms my heart, my dear....!
That dren must be rather scary when it goes off...especially since it is so very loud...! But in another way, it is great that you have it as a warning...I hope you never ever have a full blown Tornedo....! Glad you had some rain, though. We are desperate for rain here, too.

Humberto visited Freddie town yesterday......spilled it's rain all over the thirsty outdoors. It was wonderful.......spent the afternoon enjoying it while cooking savoury goodies in my kitchen.....

Then, it blew away as fast as it came just in time for us to enjoy an outdoor concert as part of the Harvest Jazz Festival.

This morning? The sun is sharp and crisp.......reflecting off the last of the summer colour.
