Editing the photos

Since we went on holiday with friends, and we each took cameras, there was a natural need to get together again afterwards. To review photos, of course.

This evening we went over to their house for dinner (an amazingly delicious dish of sesame crusted marinated wild salmon, with brown rice, roasted broccoli and a salad. And along the way, spent a lot of time sorting through hundreds of photos, deciding on which photos they wanted to upload to the company we use to print our pictures.

It was really interesting to see which ones they chose -- some were obvious, but at the same time, there were ones I knew they'd pick, and they didn't --- and others that I was really surprised that they wanted.

On the down side, after seeing the photographs at the beach, they had both decided to go on a low carb diet -- so the bread that I took over for dinner was unwanted, as was the wine.... a good thing that I hadn't made a cold sesame noodle dish too!

Oh well. Slim pickings.

Yours, not a skinny chef,

I think it was rude of them not to have your wine and bread. The diet can always start tomorrow!

Thanks for your visit. He will be on several medications and vitamins. His high blood pressure was just familial, I think, and part of his type A personality also. He never saw a doctor before this, so we don't know if something else caused it.

greetings from michele!

the funny thing about this is that my mother and i are currently doing the same thing. we are both editting and double checking our photos and getting them ready for each other to see of the hot air balloon night glow and lift off. its lots of fun!

Kenju: they actually started their diet on Monday, so it would have been a bit more serious to break it --- I just wish I'd known ahead of time so I wouldn't have subjected them to temptation! (which they resisted, I hasten to add!)

Have you given thought to meditation as well as medication? There are some studies that suggest that a good regimen of meditation and relaxation can really help blood pressure -- and as far as I know there a none that suggest it causes *any* problems!

Dak-ind: we just found out today that there is a balloon festival here in a week or two -- which is wonderful news: we were *so* disappointed that they moved the memorial day one away!

I personally would have kept the wine, and considered it a "temporary pause" in the diet...
This could be why my diets don't work.

Unwanted bread and wine! Sacrilage!

I love going through photo's after a holiday or day out. It's like reliving it.

I just added you to my blog roll which will help me visit more often. Now, I just need more time! I will return :)

We've used both snapfish and kodak -- and we have probably got photos scattered around other places too.
One of these days I am going to play around with picasa and see how that is.
I put photos up here, on the other hand, just by uploading them to blogger, either from my local folder or from the web site I put them all up on so that grandparents can get all our photos, not just the censored ones!

Digital photography is a wondrous evolution of the art, but you hit the nail on the head when you wrote about the need to edit hundreds of photos.

It seems I can't leave the house without capturing a card's worth of pictures...which inevitably begets hours of editing and production work. I've learned to schedule time for this, just as I would any other work.

Thanks, by the way, for your expert Linux guidance. You've given me much to consider as I gain access to my science project PC. I'll be downloading ISOs in the days to come as I get ready to have some fun with this machine.

Gotta love how this works, eh?

Oh, visiting from Michele's today. She sends her best, as do I!

The editing that we were doing was basically figuring out which photos our friends wanted in print: we are giving them a dvd with all the photos from the trip --- we took about 600 pictures, whereas they, with a film camera, took 8 rolls of film. I think that we captured more as a result of being able to take more pictures without having to worry about the expense!
There is an advantage to having a smaller memory card: it means that the pictures tend to be in smaller, more manageable chunks! I have 1 gig card in our camera, and occasionally I end up having to sort through 400 pictures at one sitting!

On the linux front, feel free to ask if you have any other questions. I'm serious about getting someone there physically the first time that you load it: it really does make it less nervewracking! Not that it is hard, just it takes a bit of courage sometimes to partition a hard drive (and thereby wipe out any data on it, at least at the surface level:-)
There is bound to be a Linux Users Group (LUG) in London, at UWO for sure.

We don't get to see any? It's bad enough we can't taste that salmon. Michele sent me tonight.

Colleen --- check out the posts over the past week --- I've put up a couple of dozen pictures, I think....
Now the salmon... that I can't help with!

OH! I only scrolled down one more post. I like the one of the kids digging in the sand the best!

I had seared tuna tonight with pine nuts and pesto pasta. So I should be okay.

I agree with kenju...very rude not to eat your bread and wine. Diets should always begin tomorrow!

It's often funny and interesting to see what pictures others really like and which ones they don't.

We gave my parents a picture of our kids (in a picture frame photo album). It was a picture of them at the beach, showing the happiness and love for water. We have this picture framed in our entrance way to our house.

My Dad loved the frame but said the picture "will do" until we find a better one.

There's no accounting for taste!;-)

Michele sent me!

Why haven't I been here before?

Anyone who keeps archy and mehitabel close by is a friend of mine.

Mamacita: I don't know: why haven't you been here before? I must admit that I rarely mention a&m: a quick look at past posts showed this was the only one that was easy to find.
