AMEN times three! I wish he would too. Mr. kenju said this morning that Al says he is not running and I said if he did - he would win (just like he did last time, right?)

You will be interested to know that a judge in the UK has ruled that Gore's film may only be shown in schools with guidance notes pointing out the scientific inaccuracies! It is an interesting counterpoint to the Nobel prize.
I have to say I don't agree with him winning the Nobel Peace Prize. There are other people who are more deserving than Gore. I mean, what did Gore do? He made a movie about global warming. Shouldn't people that spent their entire life fighting environmental issues get the prize first before Gore? Not to mention there are so many inaccuracies in the film...

You are seeing things through the non-US lens, and usually I'd agree with you. There are many others who have made great contributions to bringing the cause to light in the rest of the (highly developed) world.
Gore's contribution has been to bring a significant portion of the US to the realization that global warming is real and scary. And also to make sure that this is global knowledge, so that countries such as China and India can be pressured -- these are the two countries most frequently used as scapegoats, fairly or unfairly, by GW Bush.
And he has not just recently come to this issue: he has had a focus on the environment for many years --- the right wing here often accuse him of exaggeration, but usually his exaggerations have more truth than falsehood. And as to the errors in his movie, compare the level of accuracy to "educational materials" put out by the energy industry, the car industry, etc...
Is he the best choice? Perhaps not, in some ways. But in terms of the Nobel committee helping the UN committee focus on the environment, it is very helpful!
